When using the autopilot, it's essential to have a clear view of heading, course and status information. That's why the AP44 Autopilot has a full-colour graphic display that clearly shows autopilot data and intuitive menus.
For optimum visibility in all conditions, the AP44 uses optical bonding between the LCD screen and its protective glass layer. This eliminates the risk of condensation or fogging inside the screen. Transflective LCD technology captures external light to enhance the display's illumination rather than obscure it, resulting in excellent daytime visibility and lower power consumption than conventional backlit displays.
Intuitive autopilot control
The beauty of a dedicated autopilot control console is that it provides immediate access to autopilot functionality through the positioning of key controls. That's why the AP44's intuitive interface is limited to four buttons and a rotary pushbutton selector. The selector allows you to make both small and large course adjustments quickly and accurately. It also makes it easier to select menu options on the screen, eliminating the need for multiple button presses.

Each of Simrad's steering innovations is the result of over 60 years of development in the field of autopilot steering. This tradition continues today at Simrad Yachting's autopilot research centre in Norway. It is embodied in the Continuum algorithm, the software at the heart of Simrad's autopilot technology. Automated turning templates
Your Simrad Autopilot doesn't just keep you on course: with the AP44 you have access to built-in turning templates, designed to make fishing or diving easier, or simply to help you turn around quickly. Simply choose a tack angle, select port or starboard, and off you go. For even more control over your manoeuvres, you can customise your templates to perform complex spirals, zigzags and more.
Driftless steering
Driftless mode combines GPS navigation with autopilot, using the boat's position to compensate for the effects of wind and tide. This allows you to stay on a straight line over the bottom on your current heading, without having to manually set a waypoint or course. To take advantage of this powerful feature, simply connect the AP44 to a GPS receiver with an NMEA 2000® connection or a compatible Simrad chartplotter.
Line-of-Sound Tracking
By connecting your AP44 autopilot to a compatible fishfinder, you will be able to perform line-of-sound tracking. The AP44 will then automatically steer the boat to maintain a constant water depth below it. It's the ideal way to follow the sounding line when fishing or boating, without having to define complex routes with multiple waypoints.
Configuration made easy with auto-tuning
There's no reason why installing and commissioning the autopilot should be time-consuming and difficult. The AP44 features an autotune function that ensures the best possible steering performance, with a simple, on-screen commissioning process including dockside set-up and sea trial. Automatic compass calibration is possible with the Simrad Precision-9 solid state compass, further simplifying autopilot set-up and ensuring heading accuracy.
Compact Glass Helm System
